My name is Rebecca Jarrett-Dalton (hyphenation in honour of my dad!) and I am a mother and a wife, and part owner of this business.

It is as important to me as it is to my colleagues that we provide all of the necessary tools for all of our clients to prosper, and I believe that women understand things differently to men.

It’s a very different world for women today. I see that many single women are not marrying in their twenties (as they might have done last generation); they are not taking a backwater job and waiting for their prince charming. They are getting on with things themselves, they have good jobs, and they do save money, buy homes and even invest. A client of mine that I am immensely proud of and immensely fond of recently celebrated her 30th birthday and the purchase of her 4th investment property. There is no stopping today's single women.

And our married / coupled up ladies are not falling behind either.

Today's wives and mothers are actively seeking opportunities to improve the life of their family. They recognise the limitation of Super and are managing the budget to allow for investing. They do lead the choice of financial providers in their household and they have very firm goals in mind. They balance school / children / work and lifestyle in a way our mothers would never have imagined and they can still catch up for a coffee or a quick drink.

Today's women support each other in the way that the extended family would have supported our mothers in their day.

Personally, I am a mother of two Annaleise & Lorelei and with my husband I own a home and invest in property. I'm not too good with shares - though I believe in them as an asset - and I am keen to learn more.

I love shoes and jewellery, though I tend to spend more on my daughter's clothes than my own - a familiar tale. I own one pair of fabulous hand made Italian leather shoes, and I think that's as close as I'll ever get to a Manolo Blahnik, because I'd rather go on a holiday or buy another house.

I am a JP, I hold a certificate IV in Mortgage Broking and my goal for my business are to help as many people achieve financial success in whatever form that may be for them.

There is a worldwide shortage of men - or so it would seem if the media is to be believed, and certainly our statistics would agree.

More than 10% of our current clients are single women buying property in their own name and doing it well. At any given time we would have 5-10 single women in discussion with our office regarding home finance or some form of planning of their finances.

Additionally, in about half of the families that we meet the woman is leading the household budget. She has her reins on the finances and is the lead decision maker in providers (insurance companies, electricity providers, telephone, etc.).

In my own home:

• I pay the bills
• I keep track of the insurances
• I write the cheque for the school fees
• I check the bank statements
• I administer our budget
• And naturally, I choose the mortgages.

But in this I am not alone.

This is not man-bashing, it's just these things fall under my jurisdiction in the weekly portion-up of the household chores, and increasingly I find that many households are organised the same way.

Women are taking control of the finances, and they want to understand what they are doing - and they want to be understood.

It's quite simple.

Women are buying their own homes or investing to build wealth; they have good jobs and a good income stream and they want to make the most of it.

We recognise a need to help you look after your finance and we offer a female friendly service, where you can:

• Choose to speak with a female or male consultant as suits you
• Meet with a woman to discuss your finances at a time that fits in with your family and work schedule
• Liaise with a female team - in fact a team of mothers - chasing the progress of your loan
• Refer back to that same team when you need an update at any time in the future
• Look after all of your finance needs under one roof
